For our April meeting we will have State Senator James Rosapepe lead a discussion about the issue of financial challenges in retirement and the Maryland Secure Choice Retirement Savings Program and Trust bill that is pending in the State Legislature. (SB 312/HB 421). This bill proposes to cover over a million Marylanders who are not covered by employer-sponsored retirement plans. According to Senator Rosapepe, “Today, half of private sector working people have no retirement plans beyond Social Security. Unless we reform our pension system, expanding access, this generation of working people will retire poorer than their parents. And the taxpayer will be left to pick up the bill. That will be a fiscal, economic, and social disaster.”
